The Department of Agriculture finalized on March 11h a rule related to voluntary labeling claims of ‘Product of the USA.’ The final rule allows the voluntary “Product of USA” or “Made in the USA” claim to be used only on FSIS-regulated products that are derived from animals born, raised, slaughtered and processed in the United States. This rule allows for processors that are working with FSIS inspected products to put a voluntary ‘Made in the USA’ label or ‘Product of the USA’ label if they can meet all the claims that it is a product of the USA for meat, poultry and egg products.
How does that effect you? If you are in the United States and producing, handling, or trading organic products or planning to have your products certified organic then you are subject to this new rule. This new rule also requires your facility to be FSIS inspected to qualify. Your certifier can visit and inspect your facility without advance notice. This is where we can help!
